Aubergine

My Mum loathes aubergine. And spinach.

They’re too new-fangled for her.

This from a woman who’s eaten all sorts of things in her extensive travels across the world – she once brought me home the skull fished out from a monkey stew. I’m not quite sure what she thought 9-year-old me would want with such a thing…
But I digress.

The mere mention of either vegetable puts her off the entire meal.

Imagine that: saying that I could have made one dish with spinach – but didn’t – makes her refuse completely spinach-free food.

Ridiculous.

Yet I regularly see parallels in my professional life.
Time and again, people would rather stick to their old, not-really-working ways because to change involves… gasp, shock, horror… learning new tech.

On the other hand, there are some, like the colleague I worked with this week, who struggle with tech.
But understand how much it can help them.
And do it regardless.

This week, the colleague in question has gained access to two fab tools that will really help them deliver their company’s objectives.
One to help them manage leads, the other to manage their own and their team’s work.
I even gave them a few new ways to use Generative AI.
Baby steps, but in the right direction.

They were brave.
And determined.
And actually, a pretty quick learner.

They dealt with their spinach.
And came out as strong as Popeye.

(Jeez, did I really use that analogy?! I’ll get my coat!)
